New Career Option For Baby Boomers

Baby Boomers Looking to Retire, Are They Looking To Rest, Or Refocus? My Experience Says Refocus... Sort of.

I Talk With Many Baby Boomers Looking To Start a Business From Home. I Often Ask The Question, " What do you see yourself doing in the next 10-15 Years", This Is What They Say. Having Fun, Do Things They Sacrificed Doing During Family/Working Years, And Many Made Choices of Responsibility and Practicallity During Midlife and Now Are Ready to Explore Those Options They Choose Against.

To be completely honest, It sort of suprised me to here so many 50 something baby boomers tell me they were looking to have fun, enjoy life and try new things. I would have expected it from people closer to there mid twenties. I have always seen baby boomers as responsible, self sacrificing, and conservitive. Turns out they were sand bagging.

It seems to me that baby boomers have the mindset, especially in career matters, that puts business or career first, then they will play. They are a generation of people who had a starting point and ending point when it comes to career.

It seems that many baby boomers knew they had other aspirations and entertained new ideas all through their working careers, but many sort of made a list of things to do at retirement. Nowadays it seem people are trying to do everthing all at once career, family, travel, hobbies, corporate career, business on the side.... and on and on.

Baby boomers have a career long set of skills and are by no means just hanging a hammock in the back yard as a strategy for retirement. That's not to say there is'nt a hammock back their, its just that they tend to be over it after a few months of R & R.

New careers for baby boomers are being selected not so much out of need and skill, but rather significance and flexibility. The opportunity for a baby boomer to have impact without a full time committment is also very appealing. Home based business opportunities, turning a hobby into a small business, mentoring, and community involvement are all options that baby boomers choose to continue to have impact after they have put a bow on their careers.
