When I was looking for good home business ideas when I wanted to start another business I ran across a lot of "Business Opportunities" which is actually a business model online. Business opportunities offer a pre-packages system in which you play a part and earn money. The part you'll play is usually recruiter or marketer and sales. Many of the top tier biz opps boast a "no selling" mantra as they systemtize a great deal of the sales process. Money is made when people buy products. Sometimes the products are the system it's self and some biz opps have other stand alone products.
Why Business Opportunities Aren't the Best
I personally don't care for the busienss opportunity business model at all. I wrote an indepth article on business opportunities you can go read that and learn more. The key to being successful with a biz opp is generating leads and you'll find that is both difficult and expensive online when you first start out. The learning curve is pricey. Once you have it figured out you'll have an easier time of making money but the compensation programs you'll find assume the people you recruit will do well also. But remember they have to go through the same learning curve you did.
There are many good low cost business ideas you can start and work hard at to build a solid business that will generate a significant passive income. My experience with biz opps would be far from passive. Which brings me to another point, if you're going enroll in a biz opp that isn't passive don't market it in way that leads people to believe it is. In the real world that is called lying and when you do that people will just quit and you'll be wasting your time.

There are some people in the biz opp industry that earn a ton of cash. I don't deny that one bit, I know a few personally. They love it and it shows. The business opportunity business model and compensation model allow a person to earn several hundred thousand dollars per year, but it certainly isn't the norm.
2011 is quickly rushing toward the past leaving us with a new year soon and new business ideas to consider for 2012. I wanted to write a new post, as it's been a while, and I wanted to talk about some of the best business opportunities for 2012 online. To be honest I'm not making any huge changes to my online business for 2012, but I am going to do major work and expansion during the winter months.
Regardless of where the "crazy economy" has led you over the past few years, I think starting an online business is a great idea for a lot of people. I had my own experience on that path and I don't have much to offer in the way of advice or encouragement if your looking for a quick fix and a quick buck. It didn't work that way for me.

If your just starting an online business I highly recommend sticking with business opportunites that will at worse break even. In other words only start business opportunities that will be profitable. Try starting a business in 2012 from scratch. Forget about start up capital or mooching unsecured small business loans from your friends and family, and do some research instead. The best online business model I've found is the one I use and I'll share more about that over the next few months.
I'm biased and I admit it. I know there are some profitable opportunities out there, but most just seem to be a glorified version of a job. Some of the best direct sales opportunities are earning six figures plus, but I know a few of these guys and they are working hard ( and long hours ) to earn those incomes. 2010 is upon us, and it looks to be a year filled with opportunity. Marketing a business opportunity was the motivation for me to start blogging about small business and more specifically home based business ideas. I started looking for a solid business opportunity that's run from a home office around six months ago. I am wanting another income stream for my online business.
Here is the thing though, I want to do it my way. I want to make my own rules, set my own hours, and have some control over what I earn. That isn't asking to much is it?
I've narrowed my search down to two or three possibilities. I'm not letting the cat out of the bag as to what new business I'll add to my mix in 2010, I'm not 100% sure yet anyway.

There is an upside to every business idea. Every investment carries risk and most every business carries some sort of risk too. There will always be at least an investment of time, which for many of us is just as valuable, or more, as money.
Huge potential to earn, or upside, is great and having strong upside is important when choosing the best business opportunity to start, but here is the thing....
If your a new entrepreneur, the downside might play a bigger role in your success and certainly in your decision to start a business in the first place. Being a new entrepreneur and choosing a business idea with limited downside is not a bad idea. If you only have a couple sources of income its also a good idea to look at the downside of a business opportunity. If you can't loose, you can loose right? Many top business opportunities don't have a lot of downside, you just have to find them.
Personally I think the Internet offers some of the best opportunities to succeed as an entrepreneur, especially a first time entrepreneur, why?
Because the downside is so insignificant.

If you start a blog to earn money and you pick a topic that you have a strong interest in you will likely enjoy blogging about the topic while your money is on the way.
