I just read a good post on 3 of the top online small business opportunities for 2012 that provided 3 different ways to get started in the online world of business. Most (mine included) online businesses start rather slow and return small profits for the first few months, not all, but most. I'm not a big advocate of the business opportunity business model where you basically by in for a few thousand dollars. These are direct sales/network marketing models and in my experience they are more like a job than anything else.
Building a full fledged online business that is long term and sustainable was my goal and after almost 2 years I found a good model that works for me. I combine affiliate marketing, lead generation, private advertising and AdSense as streams of income and this has made a profitable business over time. I've recently started to earn money with Amazon's affiliate program as well which focuses on physical products. Most of my affiliate earning have been from digital information products in the past, I used clickbank a lot.

Why The Best Business Opportunities Aren't Biz Opps
When I was looking for good home business ideas when I wanted to start another business I ran across a lot of "Business Opportunities" which is actually a business model online. Business opportunities offer a pre-packages system in which you play a part and earn money. The part you'll play is usually recruiter or marketer and sales. Many of the top tier biz opps boast a "no selling" mantra as they systemtize a great deal of the sales process. Money is made when people buy products. Sometimes the products are the system it's self and some biz opps have other stand alone products.
Why Business Opportunities Aren't the Best
I personally don't care for the busienss opportunity business model at all. I wrote an indepth article on business opportunities you can go read that and learn more. The key to being successful with a biz opp is generating leads and you'll find that is both difficult and expensive online when you first start out. The learning curve is pricey. Once you have it figured out you'll have an easier time of making money but the compensation programs you'll find assume the people you recruit will do well also. But remember they have to go through the same learning curve you did.
There are many good low cost business ideas you can start and work hard at to build a solid business that will generate a significant passive income. My experience with biz opps would be far from passive. Which brings me to another point, if you're going enroll in a biz opp that isn't passive don't market it in way that leads people to believe it is. In the real world that is called lying and when you do that people will just quit and you'll be wasting your time.

Most Profitable Wordpress Business Model For 2012|ProfitFM Review
This month marks the 7th year I've been building a profit presence on the world wide web. Today I wanted to recap, reveal, and share my future plans for creating a long-term sustainable business online. I'm also going to share a little about an ingenious tool to take your online business to a whole new level. That's pretty simple isn't it. Which is another reason I've been successful on the Internet. I'm not afraid to do something simple over and over. Like creating a few hundred post on a wordpress business website. I went ahead and added to that a willingness to learn something new AND implement it which made for a very profitable online business model. Again, once I learn something new it tends to get simple (maybe boring) but I do it anyway over and over.
You know, it's pretty easy today to just keep learning more and more stuff, which is awesome and I love that about the Internet. BUT, I have yet to find a way to make money for just collecting knowledge upon knowledge.

Sometime in 2007 I switched from a blog spot blog to a wordpress site, this has been the single most important move I've made besides the one I'm making this year. Blogger has a great platform and if you've never built a website before, I recommend building a couple blog spot websites. You'll learn the basics of building a website with current drag and drop methods. You'll learn how to use tracking to improve your website. You'll have a testing ground for SEO theory. And it's a step anyone can do right now to actually start an Internet business in 2012. Creating a wordpress website for a business is just better. Either way you'll wind up there if you want to build the most profitable business model that is sustainable and easy to innovate.
I can do whatever the hell I want with my wordpress sites. And I own them. That is the real short version of why I switched. The idea that the big G can come along and delete a site if they should choose (that happened to me) is a little un-nerving. The functionality of wordpress is far superior and the free add-ons and plug ins for wordpress is amazing. I'd also add that the amount of traffic I get to my wordpress websites is far superior, I keep visitors on my site longer and I make more money. If you need more reasons than that, maybe you Blogger is a better fit for you.

Ask 10 different entrepreneurs anything and you'll get 10 different answers. I'm only sharing my experience here, but trust me, I have company. I've gotten lots of advice, that I sought out online, about creating a profitable business on the Internet. Some has worked, some hasn't, some did work and now doesn't. I basically encountered 2 schools of thought:

That cliff can sometimes occur and if it does you'll be making less money from the website that is sporting it. It can really hurt, but won't hurt nearly as bad if you have several different sites in different niches, some authority and some smaller niche sites. I'm not saying that wordpress can't experience problems, especially with panda and other google tweaks that are sure to come. Don't focus to much on analytics either, it can drive you crazy. I remember times when the down-trends on the image below would literally cause me to loose sleep, know what I mean?
By now most of the know it all's and those who have permanently pasted "easy street" in their online "Tom-Tom" have continued on with their evening of knowledge and surfing for sure, so let's talk about creating a sustainable and profitable business online in 2012. Simply put, they created ads that said, "I make millions so can you" and people clicked, bought into the opportunity, and the guy who created the ad made millions (in some cased literally). I wrote more about online business opportunities at one of my main sites. There FTC has some new compliance laws for the business opportunity business model.
I'm not saying AdWords doesn't work anymore, you already know that. What I'm saying is that when new technologies, products, and companies first hit the market there are opportunities that won't last forever. Those same "Guru's" are now "face book marketing experts" behind the ads we see on FB. Some made some great money and enjoyed a great ROI.

Social bookmarking is the new back link.
Quality inspires (causes) bookmarking in the right circles.
Strategic link building is more relevant than ever.
Local is key to a real authority profile.
So what does all of this mean? Well first off, if you want to build the most profitable online business in 2012 you need to consider a platform like wordpress. From an SEO, SEM, Social networking, and usability standpoint, there really isn't another option. Secondly, you need to consider how you will create quality content. Content that is meaningful enough for you to share with your friends who have common interests. Social platforms will be flooded with links to your content if can find a successful way to execute this in 2012 and you business will become more profitable.
Like I said quality inspires bookmarking in the right circles. One of the reasons google plus will be a better platform for Internet Marketers is because you can create your own demographic. Not much sense in sharing an article about cooking steak with a vegetarian, right? That's my point. If you want folks to share your content, share it with the right folks.
The Reason This All Seems Overwhelming
To be completely honest, I like the old way better. I got used to it. The first time I created a back link ( and it worked ) I remember thinking, " You have got to be kidding me"....
Building a powerful back link profile was one of the most mundane, tedious, and seemingly meaningless things I've ever done. The return was good and still is. To be honest, it was just as tedious and overwhelming as social media is to me today. I didn't approach back linking with a system, I did it all by hand, personally.
I use a system for the social networking element of Internet marketing and I do that with ease because of wordpress. There are systems for blogger too. I mean I can share any web page with the tool bar I have installed, BUT most people don't have a tool bar and only share something that they really think is cool. Keep that in mind, make it easy for them to share your content and you won't have too.....

My 2010 Business Opportunities Online: My Plans For 2010
Are you excited about your business opportunities 2010?
What are you thinking right now about the upcoming year as far as your business or career are concerned. A quote I like, but haven't "memorized" goes something like, "Your attitude at the outset of a thing greatly affects the outcome of the thing". Having a good attitude about the business environment in 2010 is a good idea. I'm starting with that and the more I look at my online business and the business opportunities 2010 will bring, I get excited.
I've been nipping away at a financial goal I've set separately for my online business, with is really a web publishing business. What's that?
Basically I blog about small business ideas, and creating an income on the Internet from home. Another aspect that ties in is why I do this. The why of it is more about create a life by design than anything else. I started with a vision 3 years ago and decided that using the Internet to earn money from home was my surest way to realising that vision. Have you made the same decision?
Decisions are powerful and it pays to use the Internet to develop passive income in 2010. As I mentioned I have a separate income goal for my business opportunities and ideas online. I still take on projects off line, but my online business opportunities are a much better match to that vision I talked about.
So what am I doing in 2010?
Well I have a few goals or projects I'm committed to and while I'm always open to new business opportunities in 2010 I've got a few that I'm doing. Its funny how I'll hold a business idea for what seems like eternity. Talking myself into how it would work great, thinking of how much value it would add and how much money I'd make, and such. It's silly, you know?
The marketplace is the proving ground and taking a business idea from you mind to the marketplace is the work of an entrepreneur. It is what it is.
My Best Business Opportunities for 2010
So here are my best business opportunities for 2010. An idea worth mentioning is how some of my ideas, most really, are connected to work I've already done online that has netted results and income. The best tip for a would be entrepreneur is to just get started in business. Profitably will come later. I'd rather be where I'm at right now than when I first got started, mainly because there is more opportunity when you've created momentum.
The first opportunity I want to develop in 2010 is to enlarge my small business industry websites. I have a main site and a few others that talk more specifically on smaller niche topics. I basically want to develop a few more topics to blog or write about. Selling ad space on this network has been a steady profitable business opportunity. Starting a blog is one of the best investments for 2010 in my opinion.
By profitable business opportunity I mean for the money and time spent there is a return that justifies my attention. It wasn't always like that but it is now. Persisting in what already works in my business just makes simple sense so it's number one on my list of top business opportunities online in 2010.
The next business idea I'd like to explore, a new one for me, is creating a business that has a tangible product. I'm not sure if I want an affiliate product or a private labeled product. I'm leaning toward private label and will be looking at the capital outlay of Private labeling a few different products I have in mind.
Another of my goals for my online business is to create a community based website with user generated content. I've dabbled in this a little in 2009, with minimal results but it continues to grab my interest.
And the last business opportunity I like to develop in 2010 is to create a home based business idea using the Internet and a website and sell by years end. My income goal for this project will be 15k. Do you think that is reasonable? By the way if you have any experience in the items I've mentioned or have any business ideas for 2010 please share in the comments! I'd love to be involve in a discussion like that.
2010 will bring its challenges but I'd rather be online developing business concepts than anywhere else. The start up costs are very low and low cost business ideas are much more sustainable in tough times. There are very few expenses in my online business, the biggest being taxes. I like that in a business.
Passive business opportunities used to be a dream to me and I used to think multi-family housing or college rentals when I thought passive. It isn't the way it was 20 years ago, thank God, and you can get in on the action by investing a few hours a week, that's what I did.

The next business idea I'd like to explore, a new one for me, is creating a business that has a tangible product. I'm not sure if I want an affiliate product or a private labeled product. I'm leaning toward private label and will be looking at the capital outlay of Private labeling a few different products I have in mind.
Another of my goals for my online business is to create a community based website with user generated content. I've dabbled in this a little in 2009, with minimal results but it continues to grab my interest.
And the last business opportunity I like to develop in 2010 is to create a home based business idea using the Internet and a website and sell by years end. My income goal for this project will be 15k. Do you think that is reasonable? By the way if you have any experience in the items I've mentioned or have any business ideas for 2010 please share in the comments! I'd love to be involve in a discussion like that.
2010 will bring its challenges but I'd rather be online developing business concepts than anywhere else. The start up costs are very low and low cost business ideas are much more sustainable in tough times. There are very few expenses in my online business, the biggest being taxes. I like that in a business.
Passive business opportunities used to be a dream to me and I used to think multi-family housing or college rentals when I thought passive. It isn't the way it was 20 years ago, thank God, and you can get in on the action by investing a few hours a week, that's what I did.

Honestly I think a blog can be one of the best businesses to start in 2010, I mean you've got to have something to say but really, there isn't much else. I mean if you read any of my blogs you know I'm no Hemingway. And I don't need to be, I do fine and over time my grammar is improving. I've owned businesses that have earn a boat load of money, but I had no life and was miserable. While I learned a lot and developed management skills and systems that gave me a life and reduced stress, I still didn't like what I did. Every day felt like another mountain to climb. I had to deal with people I didn't want to deal with and take risks I wasn't comfortable taking. While money is great, money alone is not the indicator of the best business to start.
I had the idea one day that, " wouldn't it be neat if who I wanted to be on a day to day basis created my life." In other words, I wanted to be on purpose. Its great to feel useful, and on purpose.
I think the best business to start is the one that excites you a bit, causes you to stretch, and serves people in a way your proud of.
Business opportunities are opportunities to make money. Businesses need to earn money, if they don't their hobbies. Just because you love doing something does not mean its going to be a great business opportunity.

Yes and No. The term "business opportunities" has at best, been a long sufferer of a chronic identity crisis. In the time I've been interested in the Internet as a viable opportunity to earn a significant income without investing a ton of money or more importantly a ton of time, I've been baffled some of the perceptions people have about business opportunities. I thought I'd write an article about what I've learned, what you can expect, and how best to approach the world wide web in terms of entrepreneurial pursuits.
The business opportunities you see advertised online via google AdSense, banner ads, and text links are mostly turnkey business opportunities for making money from home. So in essence, at the end of the day, what is the "opportunity"?
A online based business opportunity is a chance to realise these things mentioned. It is not a guarantee. Its not a sign and drive affair and in a sign and drive world, its important to take a minute and realise what that means.
First off, if your thinking about starting an online business opportunity, almost without exception you will play the role of marketer. You will be using the Internet as a tool to attract clients,customers, or associates to your business. Online marketing is multi-faceted ordeal that I find fascinating and challenging at the same time. Using the Internet to make money creates opportunities that otherwise would be an arrogant dream. I've talked with people in four different countries in the same one hour period while following up with potential customers, something totally new to me and impossible without an online presence.

Look for what fits. That's pretty simple and its good advice. In my opinion, starting out marketing affiliate products online without even having a website is not a good route to take. Now that doesn't make affiliate marketing a bad business model, it just makes it bad if your new to the Internet marketing world and don't have a platform to market from.
Businesses in general have a way of transforming, or taking on a life of their own and its no different with online business opportunities. It is unlikely that your business will look like you thought it would at the outset. Other opportunities will present themselves that compliment of even out perform the intended income source.

Choosing the best business opportunities is a simple process you'll want to be willing to follow through with.
Answering these questions is a good start to help you narrow down your search for a successful online business to start. Remember simple doesn't meant easy.
