Home Based Small Business: Six Myths That Keep People Broke.
Just the facts. No Bull. Candid Observations of a Work at Home Entrepreneur.
Over the course of the last six months or so I have kept track of some of the ideas or myths people hold on to with regard to their beliefs about home based business or making money online. In the beginning, these attitudes frustrated me and I was basically confused. I now have a better understanding where these assumptions come from and no longer do uniformed individuals bother me in the course of my business day.
When we visit a website or better yet lets say we want to buy a pair of green wool sock on a popular auction site. When we arrive at the site we find it easy to navigate and we are presented with a number of options that are legitimate choices for us. During our visit we don't think about all the work that went into putting together the web pages, graphics, the links, the keywords, the money back guarantees, the secure check out methods or shipping process. We get our green wool socks and go on about our merry day.
I thought it would be productive to list a few myths or false assumptions people seem to hold as the take a stroll on the cyber streets of the internet.
Myth Number One: I personally operate a home based business and part of my daily activity is calling people back who have requested me to do so the previous day. I have notice that people feel uneasy almost to the point of acting as though the call was not invited. People who are curious about starting a home based business seem to feel that they can easily be taken advantage of. This myth I believe goes something like this. I don't know everything about the internet and this person does. I could be taken advantage of because of this. Having a conversation is having a conversation. When a person is curious about buying tires for their car they don't leave a message with the tire place and then when they call back feel like they are about to be duped. You don't need to feel this way online either.
Myth Number Two: For some reason many people I speak with, although well informed before I even speak with them, believe online business is easy. Business is not easy. Online business is business, therefore online business is not easy. Online business and especially well put together home based business opportunities are simple but not easy. Home based business models typically systematize various tasks like shipping and ordering, and product creation, and marketing plans. The entrepreneurs basic function is leadership and communication along with sales and problem solving.
Myth Number Three: Earning a Six figure a year income with a home based business model is too good to be true. Individuals with no prior business experience can sometimes buy into this my
th as well. With a little further investigation these people would learn how home based entrepreneurs actually achieved these results. When they do this they will understand that six figure or multiple six figure per year income is common in the home based industry, however the people who achieve this mark work hard and smart to achieve it. I think myth number two and three are related. People who think a home based business is easy find it hard to believe you can earn six figures per year.
Myth Number Four: I have ran across individuals who believe that since they are working with Bob and Bob is a millionaire I will be a millionaire. Not so much. If your current financial situation is going to change I am going to bet that, at the end of the day, you will be the one to change it. While you may be motivated and inspired by Bob you will find that Bob will not be the person who creates your results you will.
Myth Number Five: Many times I have found that people lump all home based businesses into one. I think this is particularly odd. I have research a couple dozen home based business ideas and personally never found two that were all that similar. Every business online is different just like every business on the main street of your home town is different. The one you choose will have a difference whether you are successful or not. Have you ever pulled into a quick lube for an oil change and found an elderly woman sitting there in her favorite chair knitting as she welcomed you into her business. Probably not. Make sure the business you are considering starting holds your interest. Starting a business simply to make money is asking for failure.
Myth Number Six: Another school of thought that I have run across is that only the first people or the top people will ever make any money in a business. If the business is not MLM then It likely makes no difference when you get involved. Not everyone has success because not everyone does the required action to have success. This is no different in the home based business industry. The people who have success in any endeavor are the people who make the decision to have success then follow through with the required activity. Go find the most successful people in the business ask them what they did then do what they did and see what happens.

I did follow the ad to a website though. I ended up getting started and now the person who placed that add is a home based business partner of mine. The home business that I had found met every criteria that I had listed on that paper just a few months earlier. Its neat how things work out.
I now work directly with the top income earners in the work at home based business industry and love it. We utilize a simple system that generates massive income and time freedom. An Idea or thought that continues to occur can many times be a sign or a "leading" for us to pay attention to. Sometimes these intuitions may be in the form of a warning or a compelling instruction.
You may have read or heard that all creation is formed through a process. I call it the "Thought, Word, Deed" Paradigm. It basically states that if you think about something long enough you will probably talk about it. And if you talk about something long enough you will probably do it.
Simple. Yea? I think this school of thought has its origins in the Bible story. That's pretty old. When you think about anything you have done you will find that it followed this process. I have read many books that shed light on each stage of this creation process from the human perspective. One book was called " The Dream Giver " , great book by the way.
Without elaborating too awful much the summary goes like this. You have a creative thought or a idea. Maybe your thinking about starting a business, or buying a car, maybe skydiving, or riding a horse. You continue to have this thought. During the course of your day you are constantly observing things that bring your idea or new thought to mind.
Eventually you run into Bob and say, " Bob what do you think about riding horses?
". Bob Will reply with his opinion and you gain feed back. As you do this your idea is influenced and begins to take shape, or not.
You may move to talk to someone who actually has some horses and knows the ins and outs of riding a horse. Finally you find yourself face to face with the opportunity to do that which you had been thinking about, and talking about.
I am a work at home based business entrepreneur and I would like to use this analogy to give insight into making a work at home lifestyle a reality to the person who has been thinking about it .
Problem is though, you probably haven't been thinking about a home based business. You have probably been wishing you could have more free time but you have to work. Maybe you are wanting to have more money but you aren't up for a raise at your job. Maybe you miss your family, but in order to pay your mortgage, and tuition bills you have to take on more clients.
Point is, most people are consumed with the problem and not the solution.
The solution is to institute a plan that will provide a transition into a whole new lifestyle. Working from home with a legitimate home based business provides phenomenal results to millions of people across the world. And it can do that for you as well.
Finding a mentor who can point you in the direction of a home based business, institute a plan of action, and guide you to your personal and financial goals is what you need. You need someone to show you how to ride the horse.
This person will need to let you know the safe way to go about it. he will show you how to saddle the horse, and how to mount the horse and finally he will help you and guide you through your learning curve.
One of my favorite personal development coaches, Jim Rohn, says there are going to be changes in your life in the next couple years, why not pick the changes you want. I like that. When you decide your ready for a change the answers will appear. Remind yourself to think about the life you really want.
Forget about the one they sold you in college or in high school. Forget about the one that keeps your electric bill paid and think about the one you truly desire. You may have to wake up if you have succumb to pressures of life and put your desires to sleep. Life need not be filled with drudgery. If you could have it be any way what would it be like?

There are a lot of people in the world today and each and every one of them have there own way of doing things. Some end up being successful and others do not. Success is not defined by where you are from or what family you were born into.
Success is taking the circumstances in your life, whatever they may be, and applying the knowledge that you have to achieve the best outcome for any given situation.
Emulating other people is sometimes a good way to achieve success especially if you are an individual who does not have the same opportunities as the person that you are formulating yourself after.
Do not get me wrong, I believe that individualism is important but I also believe that we have to be willing to learn not only from our mistakes, but from other peoples success. If you are an athlete, you would want to learn the techniques of the best players in whatever game that you are playing.
In the same respect, if you are in the business world, why not format your own strategy of success around the proven strategies that have defined the success of others.
Simply put, a formula that works, just works. The great thing about being able to apply the success tactics of others is hidden within you.
The power of you as an individual combined with the proven methods of success that were acted upon by others forms a synergy of success that is even stronger than when it was originally applied by the person who achieved the initial success with that strategy.
The power of multiplication is at work in the universe, and when your individual energy is combined with the true tactics of a successful endeavor, you become success to the tenth power.
Each of us have different gifts that we can apply to our success strategy. This is truly where niche marketing came from. The idea that you as an individual have desires that are unique to yourself gives you the ability to portray those thoughts and desires to others who have similar interests.
The individual aspect of yourself is not exactly the same as those who have similar interests, therefore your path to success is defined by your knowledge of the desires that you have, which are your strengths as an individual person. If you were exactly the same as anyone else on the planet, you would not be an individual, but a clone.
The moral of the story is this. Let your energy flow out of you in a way that lets people see the knowledge that you have. Take the energy of those who have reached the goals that you are trying to reach and apply it not to your personality or your nature, but to the way that you exhibit what you know beyond anyone else. Only you have the knowledge that you have and when that is combined with the strategy of success, you become success…

2. Go to Work. When you work from home, there is a great temptation to not treat work seriously. Things like taking too many breaks and stopping to watch Coronation Street can quickly undermine your chances of success.
In my own home based business, I often go out in the morning - even if it is just to grab a newspaper so I can come home and experience the feeling of 'going to work'
It sounds silly but it works. It helps me get into the right mindset.
3. Use a Daily Planner. This one thing can transform your results from mediocre to spectacular. You will also get far more done in a lot less time.
4. Focus on Marketing. I often tell people who attend my Home Business Seminars, that in business it is not the THING it is the MARKETING of the thing that makes all the difference in the world.
I believe that marketing can help you solve just about any problem you face.

Using a traditional business model most times the future is filled with more responsibility, work, employee expense, risk, and exposure to the turns of the economy. I explain this by my analogy of having your ladder against the wrong wall. If, in order to become financially independent you need to spend 70 hours per week away from home, putting up with a bunch of political crap, never seeing your family, all to see a corporate downsizing or pay cuts along the way or, heaven forbid an Enron.
There is nothing worse that work hard for 20 years for a business, finding yourself finally at the top, the top you sacrificed for every year, only to find yourself miserable. This sucks. I know.
Take some time on this site read a few of these articles. I am not a professional writer my any means I simply share my thoughts and experiences thus far. I have been an entrepreneur since I was 20 years old. I've had upwards of 30 employees and done multiple million dollar years, I've had good times, and bad.
My wanderings have led me to the work at home based business industry. I was fortunate to meet a couple from New York who are top producers in the work at home based business industry, that's top in the Nation. I work with people who earn 20k and more,Per Month.
I had never done that before on a consistent basis with my own companies, so I listened to them. I am building a business now with multiple streams of income. Some of these income streams are completely passive. I simply would have never had that opportunity in my other companies.
Consider this. I Did. Do you know in order to have 3000 dollars a month in passive income in real estate, you would, as an example need to own five houses that rented for 600.00 per month, were completely paid off and absolutely nothing could go wrong i.e, repairs,.
Actually you would have taxes, yard up keep and other expenses like this. Lets say you would need six houses to give you that 3000 per month in passive income. Lets say each home cost 80,000 dollars. That would cost you 480 thousand dollars. That's if you had the cash. Times that by three ( a 30 year note ) Around 1.5 million and thirty years before that would ever cash flow 3,000 dollars.
Get this: I have a side business online that almost accidentally developed, that I have spent no money on at all. I simply write a little here and there, find free stuff to give away, and this will flow 3,000 in less that 1 year. Its absolutely passive.
This is one benefit I have experience from changing my path. Work at home based business is simply superior to anything on the table.
It is a Fact. The main reason people don't get started with me, in a business that can, and has over and over generated multiple six figures the first year, is because they don't believe its real.
The more you try to convince them its real the less they would believe. So I don't. Makes no sense to jump up and down telling someone how much money your making, if they aren't ready to believe that's possible for them.
I know several millionaires. They are no better than me or you. They definitely don't work harder, they are not smarter. They believe different things than you or I and they worked with mentors.
And That has made the difference.

Listen though, If what you truly desire is to make a six figure income and have time freedom to spend with your family, or say you want to work 20 hours per week and earn 130k so you can sail 2-3 days a week or coach a sport at your local school. It would be an unwise though common mistake to settle for a business that is a slight improvement over your current circumstance. What you will end up with though is the same discontentment but with a whole lot more responsibility.

Work At Home Statistics: Business Sense of Home Business.
Work at home entreprenuers number in the millions and it is reported that every 11 seconds someone starts a home based business that allows them to work at home. Also 20% of work at home businesses gross between 100k and 500k per year. -Money Magizine
A few years ago I was completly oblivious to these work at home facts and struggled in a brick and mortar business in the commercial construction industry, and also dabled in real estate and another service industry none of which were home based.
Finally I came To realize multi milion dollar revenues, but the money just never stuck. time and time again I would sit at home and say to myself, " This is the project" . The one that would leave 30k or whatever in the bank when it completed. Time and time again I would watch it disapear.
Making the transision to work from home brought back the thing that I had always equated with success, Money. Not that I diddn't enjoy bing on the biggest projects in our state, I always enjoyed the challenges, but for what.
I work from my home office today. My main work at home business has simple systems in place and I work with a team of people who went before me and have an incentive to me reaching my goals. Try finding that in any other industry. I don't have 30 plus employees, I don't pay out over 70k a year in insurance, or 300k to 400k in payroll expenses. I sleep more comfortably and have hope, as I'm involved in a business model that is relevent to our time and pays the entreprenuer what they are worth.
