" Do home based business work ? " Well yes and no. Before you go on to say thanks for the insight lets think about this a little. Exercise bike's work. So do cars. Jobs work too and so do you. When people have this thought or ask this question about anything what they are really asking is will this produce the desired result.

With most anything that has been in use or on the market for anytime the answer to this question is going to be Yes. The only way, reason, or reality is that in order for something to enjoy a spot in the marketplace it has to produce the result it was intended to produce. It has to work.

People gotta' like it. If a home based business gets you home with your kids and replaces or exceeds a current income you might feel good about saying yeah, this business works. On the other hand if you start or buy a home based business and then fail to do the required income producing activities you will likely find "It does Not work". In reality though the noun in that statement is really You.

Same with the exercise bike. The best exercise bike in the world won't get you into better shape. It won't improve you cardiovascular system. It won't even get you to break a sweat. At the end of the day, things, methods, or business ideas won't do anything much at all for you. They do have the power though, to allow you to do magnificent things for yourself.

So what does work, what produces the result? Well, you do. More specifically your character and daily habits do. Being a student for a time or being coachable some might say is going to be necessary. You need to ask questions when you have them and implement your discoveries as you go along.

In order for a home based business to work you will have to make a commitment to the activities that are required to allow it to work. You will have to be consistent. Doing the correct things in the correct way for an adult period of time is what being consistent is all about. Something tends to happen when we are consistent and achieve some of the results we are after. Those results will work to motivate you. They will provide proof of the effectiveness of the home business you work in and they will lend credibility to the coaching and coaches who helped get started.

The nice thing about many home based businesses and what makes them work so well is that there is already a group of people who are experiencing results. This is a special group of people too. This isn't a corporate pyramid where information is leveraged and withheld to protect position. Most home based businesses that work well and are profitable have evolved as the people who achieve results provide feedback and continue to make it better.

The newest addition to the home business benefits from this concept. This concept is, in my opinion, what makes the work at home based business industry the best choice. This concept alone, meaning the continuous innovation of the business system, is singled out in most business books that I have read. I know in Micheal Gerber's E-myth, this concept is woven into every core concept. Good systems make businesses work. Good systems that work and have a built in component of constant innovation work better.

So in summary, Home based businesses that work have good system that continually evolve and innovate. The entrepreneurs understand that they must add solid work ethic, coachability, consistency, and drive. They must be persistent, honest, and connected with the leadership on the company or leadership. They must provide feed back and be motivated to achieve what it is they set out to achieve. This hold true for any business not just home based opportunities.

Motivation can be equated to energy or power and when it comes to earning, achieving, or growing its a big deal. Moving forward in areas like business, relationships, and self actualization will always be fueled by the power of motivation.

With this blog I always like to bring the focus back to the home based business arena. So what is motivation in the context of home business success and profitability? It may be much more simple than you think.

Socrates, I believe it was, taught that all motivation and motives for that matter, came back to either one of two foundational energy sources. Those sources are: The movement toward pleasure. And the: Movement away from pain.

Lets take the first. When we can visualize on a consistent basis of exactly what it is that we want. The way our life would be. How we feel, how we interact in our relationships, what kind of car we drive, the house we live in, the freedoms we enjoy, and the fulfillment we experience. If we do this consistently, at least daily, we will find our old life begins to fade and the life we have given so much thought to start to take shape by the actions we have been motivated to take.

An interesting thing happens too, as we get closer and closer to that life by design it begins to motivate us more and more. We can see it now, and feel it. Its becoming more and more real every day. We get excited and we begin to add things here and there, we make adjustments and discoveries. Our daily living at this point actually becomes our motivation. Maybe this is the definition of self actualization, not sure.

Back to the second motivating idea. The moving away from or escaping pain. Ok, so our life sucks. We hate this part and that part. This has to go. I never want to see that person again, this job sucks, I will go online and find one that does not suck as bad. Yuk! Huh?

Well the real problem with this kind of motivation is that while it can move us away from things in another direction it isn't focused and we will likely end up someplace else that is just as bad. After all we had no idea where we were going we just knew we didn't want to be where we were.

Get this though. The further away from pain we get. Whether that pain is being broke, being under appreciated, not having any time with our kids, or feeling of accomplishment in life, we still aren't closer to something that will attract us an anchor our good feelings of well being.

The further we get from the pain the less motivated we are. Eventually if we push hard enough we won't be motivated at all and that old painful life and crappy circumstances will reappear. Hence the cycles of crap that many people seem to experience in life.

So in summary. Know what you want, think about it often, and stay connected with people who do the same. Get a coach. Changing this energy source for motivation is tough. It sounds neat and clean, maybe even easy, but its not.

Now follow through big boy." Her tone was just like that too.

At the time I was a little scared after learning that I had been awarded the contract. It had been a while since I had felt that unprepared in my business and her feedback was right on. I acquired the capital and began a great relationship with a couple private investors.

Small business owners can often times find themselves isolated and when a crisis comes along or an issue that needs another perspective they can be at a loss if they don't have someone to turn to.

That's a bit of pain, being in that spot. Everyone knows you as this certain person, with this certain business. They think your rich and lucky. Deep inside though, I was miserable. I was good at what I did but I hated It. I received all kinds of recognition in the community, I met all kinds of wonderful people. But I simply did not like my life....

So, Yeah. It was difficult. To thine own self be true. Simple.... Difficult. Its worth it they say, and I will attest, partly based on "their" advice and partly based on my experience. The single most valuable thing to me in my life is freedom. I must feel free. I Know this now, and am able to make decisions based on this Knowledge. To thine own self be true.


.....So what I did in the midst running a business that was doing what It was supposed to do given the decisions I had made and actions I took, was to make a list of what I wanted to do. It will sound like a business in a box because the person you are talking to is probably using a system that has become very simple. Its kind of like buying an entertainment center. You can't haul the thing all put together so you buy it in a box a put in together, following the instructions.

The instructions will show you the best, fastest, most profitable way to put it together and exactly what to do make money. Its difficult to explain a business or sell one for that matter. It sounds silly sometimes. I saw a consulting franchise in an e-mail the other day. You could pay someone $59,000 dollars then go consult people on technology. Cool! To me that's crazy. But to someone else that might be that business that met the criteria on their list.

As far as the other Statements up there. A solid legitimate business should have a proven track record. If its been around for 3 or 4 years it is more than likely legit. Not always. The other thing, every business goes through what are called the "shake out" years. It is said it takes a company as long to get to 10% as it does to get to 100%. The first three or so years all the bugs get worked out. Also A legitimate business provides a solution to a relevant problem. Or provides a product that is in high demand.


Also good leadership is the footprint of any legitimate business.

What You Question Hold on, you say! Haven’t you heard the statistic that most people (95%) fail in Network Marketing? How about the statistic that 95% of small businesses opened each year do not make it past their 4th year? Yes, I’ve heard those numbers, and I have good reason to suspect their legitimacy.



For instance, the 95% statistic actually applies to Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) – NOT Network Marketing. Second, the 95% figure for small businesses is tracked through SBA and Bank loan data, yet many small businesses never use SBA or Bank loans in their first four years of operation.



Nevertheless, a strikingly high failure rate for new opportunities is still sobering. On closer examination, I can’t help wondering about a potential correlation between these two numbers? Is it possible that there is nothing wrong with Network Marketing per se and nothing wrong with the concept of a Small Business per se?



Is it possible the failures were due to similar causes? Is it possible that in both statistics the majority of failures were due to a lack of preparation, planning, training, and systematized implementation? Is it possible in both cases that the lack of planning stemmed from lack self-development and goal setting.



Without defined personal and professional goals, did the prospective entrepreneur commit the fatal error of losing track of his or her dream? Potential Answers to Others Poor Results Perhaps goals were initially set, but were not placed at the forefront of every daily activity? Did they form the root of every marketing decision and every business expenditure? Goals change mindsets and habits.



Embracing goals throughout the day’s activities helps every prospective entrepreneur accomplish more than he ever imagined and become everything and more than he ever dreamed. How True Entrepreneurs Get Results True entrepreneurs believe that they have the power to change anything they choose in their lives. They do not have an ‘either / or’ mentality.



They don’t evaluate choices from by weighing ‘this versus that’. Accountants weigh a pool of resources and say, “You can have this, or you can have that.” Entrepreneurs see both as necessary and align goals to expand the pool of resources to make both choices possible.

If you follow the system religiously, you are actually achieving goals set by others who paved the road before you.



In a home based business the same can be true, but there are also some legitimate organizations that provide the same depth of training without the enormous investment fees associated with most franchises. In any case, some legitimate expense will be incurred for training and ongoing marketing assistance. Expect it, plan for it, embrace it, for it will be the lifeblood of your success. Let’s see how preplanning and goal setting are important here. If my product is consumable and low value, I need large volumes of customers looking for inexpensive consumables. If my product is high value and related to self-improvement or growth, then I need a few customers each month who want to grow beyond consumption and are looking for major changes in their lives.



The goals we tailor to reach either audience will be radically different. The measures we create for utilizing advertising resources will be radically different. These in turn will determine which advertising resources we choose and the messages we communicate to potential customers.



In the case of the low value – high consumable item, we’ll want to target our marketing to large groups of people noted for high consumption spending. There are advertising resources who specialize in capturing leads specifically in this marketplace. Find them, set some goals and establish effective units of measuring them.



Then target your advertising campaign to this audience. In the case of the high value – self improvement item, we’ll want to target people who accept responsibility for what happens to them in life. They never blame their failures (or successes) on others. Any entrepreneurial thinker falls into this category: business owners, investors of all kinds, professionals continuously seeking self-improvement training, etc.



In short, we are looking for pioneers in almost any field. These are not sheep looking for jobs. These are self-determined leaders or people who have finally achieved the realization that they must determine their own destiny. Direct targeted marketing can be employed to reach these audiences. Large numbers of responses are not necessary.



Our goals and units of effective measure should help us find the few who truly want our message and opportunity. As indicated at the start of this article, it is better to be medium-good in a great field. The experts tell us the top money-making opportunity in the world today is network marketing. Home Based Small Business: Six Myths That Keep People Broke.

As a home based business entrepreneur one of the tasks that I frequently engage in is talking to people who are curious about starting a home based business. I have spent many hours and dollars creating systems to help the percentage of these people go down. What I have found is that people who are curious about starting a home based business specifically are filled with false assumptions.

Over the course of the last six months or so I have kept track of some of the ideas or myths people hold on to with regard to their beliefs about home based business or making money online. In the beginning, these attitudes frustrated me and I was basically confused. I now have a better understanding where these assumptions come from and no longer do uniformed individuals bother me in the course of my business day.

I have learned to approach these people with a much more understanding attitude and now enjoy a more productive work experience.

When we visit a website or better yet lets say we want to buy a pair of green wool sock on a popular auction site. When we arrive at the site we find it easy to navigate and we are presented with a number of options that are legitimate choices for us. During our visit we don't think about all the work that went into putting together the web pages, graphics, the links, the keywords, the money back guarantees, the secure check out methods or shipping process. We get our green wool socks and go on about our merry day.

I thought it would be productive to list a few myths or false assumptions people seem to hold as the take a stroll on the cyber streets of the internet.

Myth Number One: I personally operate a home based business and part of my daily activity is calling people back who have requested me to do so the previous day. I have notice that people feel uneasy almost to the point of acting as though the call was not invited. People who are curious about starting a home based business seem to feel that they can easily be taken advantage of. This myth I believe goes something like this. I don't know everything about the internet and this person does. I could be taken advantage of because of this. Having a conversation is having a conversation. When a person is curious about buying tires for their car they don't leave a message with the tire place and then when they call back feel like they are about to be duped. You don't need to feel this way online either.

Myth Number Two: For some reason many people I speak with, although well informed before I even speak with them, believe online business is easy. Business is not easy. Online business is business, therefore online business is not easy. Online business and especially well put together home based business opportunities are simple but not easy. Home based business models typically systematize various tasks like shipping and ordering, and product creation, and marketing plans. The entrepreneurs basic function is leadership and communication along with sales and problem solving.

Myth Number Three: Earning a Six figure a year income with a home based business model is too good to be true. Individuals with no prior business experience can sometimes buy into this myth as well. With a little further investigation these people would learn how home based entrepreneurs actually achieved these results. When they do this they will understand that six figure or multiple six figure per year income is common in the home based industry, however the people who achieve this mark work hard and smart to achieve it. I think myth number two and three are related. People who think a home based business is easy find it hard to believe you can earn six figures per year.

Myth Number Four: I have ran across individuals who believe that since they are working with Bob and Bob is a millionaire I will be a millionaire. Not so much. If your current financial situation is going to change I am going to bet that, at the end of the day, you will be the one to change it. While you may be motivated and inspired by Bob you will find that Bob will not be the person who creates your results you will.

Myth Number Five: Many times I have found that people lump all home based businesses into one. I think this is particularly odd. I have research a couple dozen home based business ideas and personally never found two that were all that similar. Every business online is different just like every business on the main street of your home town is different. The one you choose will have a difference whether you are successful or not. Have you ever pulled into a quick lube for an oil change and found an elderly woman sitting there in her favorite chair knitting as she welcomed you into her business. Probably not. Make sure the business you are considering starting holds your interest. Starting a business simply to make money is asking for failure.

Myth Number Six: Another school of thought that I have run across is that only the first people or the top people will ever make any money in a business. If the business is not MLM then It likely makes no difference when you get involved. Not everyone has success because not everyone does the required action to have success. This is no different in the home based business industry. The people who have success in any endeavor are the people who make the decision to have success then follow through with the required activity. Go find the most successful people in the business ask them what they did then do what they did and see what happens.

There you have it. These are a few of the myths that I have encountered with people who are out looking for something different. There are many top performing individuals out there in the rat race who put in sixty or seventy hours a week to earn 60 or 70 thousand dollars per year.

While they are out doing this they are missing out on family and friends and doing the things they love. Sacrifice is a funny thing and top performers always seem willing to make the sacrifice. Home based business is an industry that serves as a platform for these top performers to claim their lives back. They can earn more work less and add more value.

A Work At Home Based Business Opportunity That Fits For Me

*A usually short, intensive workshop or seminar on a specific subject.


An Idea or thought that continues to occur can many times be a sign or a "leading" for us to pay attention to. Sometimes these intuitions may be in the form of a warning or a compelling instruction.


You may have read or heard that all creation is formed through a process. I call it the "Thought, Word, Deed" Paradigm. It basically states that if you think about something long enough you will probably talk about it. And if you talk about something long enough you will probably do it.

Simple. Yea? I think this school of thought has its origins in the Bible story. That's pretty old. When you think about anything you have done you will find that it followed this process. I have read many books that shed light on each stage of this creation process from the human perspective. One book was called " The Dream Giver " , great book by the way.

Without elaborating too awful much the summary goes like this. You have a creative thought or a idea. Maybe your thinking about starting a business, or buying a car, maybe skydiving, or riding a horse. You continue to have this thought. During the course of your day you are constantly observing things that bring your idea or new thought to mind.

Eventually you run into Bob and say, " Bob what do you think about riding horses? ". Bob Will reply with his opinion and you gain feed back. As you do this your idea is influenced and begins to take shape, or not.

You may move to talk to someone who actually has some horses and knows the ins and outs of riding a horse. Finally you find yourself face to face with the opportunity to do that which you had been thinking about, and talking about.

I am a work at home based business entrepreneur and I would like to use this analogy to give insight into making a work at home lifestyle a reality to the person who has been thinking about it .


Problem is though, you probably haven't been thinking about a home based business. You have probably been wishing you could have more free time but you have to work. Maybe you are wanting to have more money but you aren't up for a raise at your job. Maybe you miss your family, but in order to pay your mortgage, and tuition bills you have to take on more clients.

Point is, most people are consumed with the problem and not the solution.

The solution is to institute a plan that will provide a transition into a whole new lifestyle. Working from home with a legitimate home based business provides phenomenal results to millions of people across the world. And it can do that for you as well.

Finding a mentor who can point you in the direction of a home based business, institute a plan of action, and guide you to your personal and financial goals is what you need. You need someone to show you how to ride the horse.

This person will need to let you know the safe way to go about it. he will show you how to saddle the horse, and how to mount the horse and finally he will help you and guide you through your learning curve.

One of my favorite personal development coaches, Jim Rohn, says there are going to be changes in your life in the next couple years, why not pick the changes you want. I like that. When you decide your ready for a change the answers will appear. Remind yourself to think about the life you really want.

Forget about the one they sold you in college or in high school. Forget about the one that keeps your electric bill paid and think about the one you truly desire. You may have to wake up if you have succumb to pressures of life and put your desires to sleep. Life need not be filled with drudgery. If you could have it be any way what would it be like?

In closing, people who have found a way to institute a plan in the work at home based industry, know how to move forward and have success. Most have " fallen off the horse" and can share information with you so you don't have to.
